Mind over Mud
by Tom Neale
Don’t go overboard for those anchor gear wash down rigs that have a
nozzle permanently mounted so that you just have to “push a button” and
water will squirt out from under the bowsprit to clean the line. We’ve
found that it’s much better to have a hose in your hand. As the chain
comes in, the boat’s swing on wind and tide will often cause the chain to
move from side to side. A fixed spray may miss much of the chain, unless
the spray is of fire hose pressure and volume. Also, some mud will come
aboard despite your best efforts, and you’ll need the hose to wash it
from your deck and platform.
